Presentations
February 22, 2021: "Thunder and Brilliant Sunshine: 200 Years of George Washington University." Part of the Bicentennial celebration at The George Washington University and the GW Museum's DC Mondays series.
December 11, 2020: "GW History: The 150-Year Cross-Pollination of the Corcoran Gallery of Art & the George Washington University." Held online at The George Washington University, Washington, DC.
March 12, 2019: "Records Management: You Can Do It!" Held at The George Washington University, Washington, D.C.
Originating in 2004, and last revised in 2017, the Records Management policy is one that applies to all schools and divisions that maintain GW records. An effective Records Management policy allows us to meet operational needs and legal requirements for record retention and privacy protection, optimize office space, minimize the cost of record retention, and properly dispose of outdated records. This policy applies to all records, regardless of whether they are maintained in paper, electronically, or in some other manner.
What do you do with records of Permanent Retention? Transfer to the University Archives. The University Archives is the official repository of the university with a mandated responsibility to preserve the historically valuable documentation of university units and individuals, including faculty, staff, and administrators. As such, it has the duty and authority to collect, appraise, describe, preserve, and make available university records of enduring value in compliance with appropriate laws and regulations, approved retention schedules, and University policies. Despite having the Records Retention Schedule and Records Management Policy, there are often questions about what exactly should be transferred to the University Archives, how to transfer it, and even when to transfer it.
This workshop will go over what the University Archives are and how we serve the University, as well as the nuts and bolts of Records Management. The intended audience is for staff who have records that the records management policy applies and could use a beginner class to get going.

This is a presentation I gave during an event called "The East Harlem Protestant Parish and the Future of the Local Church Today." This event was organized around reflecting upon and remembering the history of EHPP and what this powerful church might mean for the churches of East Harlem and beyond today. Along with a panel of four others, I presented on the collections at the Burke Library. At this time I will not upload the presentation as many of the images are from more recent years. |
